Great to see there are others who have appreciated the fine work of the folks in Kenosha. Your site brings back memories. I used to own a 1971 Javelin with a 304 and busted rear springs I bought for $200. I fixed it up and slid it sideways into a tree during one of our fine Canadian winters. It took 2 years of welding and another parts car before I finally got it straight and on the road again. It was a hoot to drive but I had to finally sell it when I needed university money. Someday I will get another and I'll be bugging you guys for parts. Keep up the good work.

Enjoyed your site a lot!As I am the proud owner of a 1970 AMX with the 390 and go package. It was about as far apart as you could take it.The engine had a catostrophic failure in the past,it was decided not to chase any more money in it so now a 401 resides in its place.it is a screamer!

Hello, I have just recently got interested in AMC, particulaly AMX, mostly because I am getting one as a project car this spring. It's my uncles old car, and has been sitting in his driveway for about 20 something years. I need to get any and all information about this car I can, and anything would be greatly appriciated. Thankyou!!!!

Nice page! I love AMC's!!! I guess what started it all was watching "Dukes Of Hazzard" (w/ some Matador's). When I found out my grandpa had an old '73 Matador in his yard he had since new. I got it at 15, and now I'm 17 and have 3 more: '63 Rambler Classic 770, '67 Ambassador w/ 45,000 orig. mi., and a '73 Ambassador wagon. I am not stopping there as I want to find a 2-door hardtop to put a 390 or 401 into. If only my dad didn't sell his '73 Amb 401 2D!

John, This is the guy who bought your 1973 Hornet hatchback. Well, the car is about 95% done and I am going to send you some pictures of it when its completed 100%, which should be within the next month or so. It was alot of work and was more than I expected, but it was definitely worth it. I practically restored the car from the ground up with the help of my best friend who resotres antique cars for a living. The car looks and runs like a million dollars - I can't wait to send you some pictures!

Just got hooked up on this thing, and much to my suprise I found a picture of my SC/360 from the AMCRC show at Somerset, NJ. I am the original owner, sold it in 83, found it with one foot in the junkyard in 93 and now she's gooder than new. Runs low 14's @ 98 mph., and still near stock. Any one else out there interested in these cars, I've collected a lot of info over the years and am willing to share what I know with other AMC'ers. Thanks John for a great web site. Blaine Hertzog

Great web site !!! I had to leave my 69 Javelin at home while serving in Germany for the Military. Man I miss it but your site is helping me get over it !! This is my second Javelin the first was a 68 Javelin with a 290 auto trans. Current car also 290 but with a aftermarket cam Holley 4bbl. auto trans. After sitting on blocks for nearly 2 years of storage outside with only a car cover, it started with very little work to get it going, I couldn't believe it. Keep up the good work on your web site. Less than 1 year to go and I will be back in the states and MY Javelin !!!

Great site and great idea putting these comments here. I am interested in buying a friend's 1974 Powder Blue Javelin for $1000 and thought I'd do some homework on it first. I think it will make a good car for my wife's anniversary so we can travel to shows together. I am a GTO guy, but I have always thought the Javelin/AMX cars were hot too. Did anyone else notice how many Ohioans have signed this guestbook? Go Buckeyes!!

Almost all of my friends are Generic 3 people and I am one of the few smart ones From the broken down IHC Travelall with the 401 that started it all at \ age 15 to my first drivable 71 Matador to my current ( and hopefully Permanant) 71 Javelin SST I wouldn't have it any other way This page is super cool as are ALL AMC's It has been a great help to me. This is my second visit to the page. Have owned 2 Javelins, 68 and current 72. 72 is in restoration process. Purchased from my sister in 75, drove it till 85, married, 5 year old son who wants to see it on the road again. 95% complete. Was in a Toys'R'Us the other day and saw some Johnny Lightn cars(like hotwheels) that were 60's and 70's muscle cars. Lo and behold we found 72 AMX's , Purple and silver. Check it out! Keep up the good work , love the site, and remember some of us have always driven AMC's.

I don't agree with you Nigel Williamson, AMC was one of the last independent American car manufacturers and therefore, they are very interesting today. It's very hard to find an AMC car in orginal shape in Sweden today. Most of them were destroyed by backyard- customizers in the 70's. But you are right about the spare parts. You have to look over the Atlantic for the best parts and they are quite expensive even there, but it's worth it because there are no cars like AMC cars. KEEP THEM RUNNING!

Spare parts for AMC are rare in Sweden and the cars are not valid as 'good american cars to have' but still we fight for the AMCs thru our clubs and meets every year and anybody is welcome to join us.

Great site; this was the first big AMC site I found on the net-- I have since visited others, but this one is the grooviest. A few suggestions, which will likely get shot down: It'd be nifty to find original Car&Driver type reviews of the 1970 Javelin here. I'm interested in knowing how the car was rated when it first came out. It seems that the 68-70 javs are some of the most popular-- maybe we could look for some of those reviews? I also think it'd be nifty to expand the number and size of the Javelin pics available. Some of the ones you've got are great, and I'll be sending my pictures in soon for the uncar gallery, but I think it'd be terrific to have 10 pictures or more of each model year. Is this at all possible? If I provide the pics, do you have the space? btw, I just recently got myself a 1970 Jav SST 360/4speed that I'm nuts about.

You really have an excellent archive of pictures here. I drive a 1977 AMC Pacer wagon in which I have invested $2700 and am still not satisfied with its condition. Rust is getting worse, and it isn't dead solid reliable yet, but I'm working on it. I'm debating whether to source replacements for the rotted quarter panels or just patch and Bondo the thing. Still, it looks pretty good and the interior is real nice (the AM only radio BITES though) Thanks again for the page!

I recently discovered this site and I really enjoy it. I am a big AMC fan and I have been for some time. My father bought an AMX in 1971 and drove it for a long time then it was handed down to my stepmother. She drove it for several years to work and back. I always wanted the car and my father said I could have it when I turn 16. Well, I turned 16 and didn't get the car. I finally got the 71 AMX, when I turned 29. By this time it was ragged but I still wanted it. My uncle had borrowed it and ran it out of water and blew the motor. About 8 months ago I started restoring it. At first I had a hard time finding parts then as I talked to other people I soon began to find the parts I needed. I am about a week or two away from firing up the motor. I've waited for this time for, well it seems forever. My wife has supported this project since the begining. She works with me on the car and is having a great time doing bodywork. I made several modifications within my cost range, of course. It is great to see all these other AMC fans that show their cars. I will send a picture as I get closer to completion. Thanks for the site. Keep up the good work. See YA

I remember seeing my first Javelin while doing my paper route at 5:00 every morning. It was around 1974 and I was twelve. I had to pass the AMC dealer during my rounds and I knew the chicks would dig me if I had a car like that. Well, I finally bought me one. Thanks to your want ads, I now own a sweet "74" Javelin. My three daughters always want to go for a ride and I even think the wife likes me better. Yep, the chicks finally dig me!!

Hello AMC fans! I've been spending the last two weeks since I got my computer visiting all the great AMC sites. My family has owned 3 AMC's in the past ('68 Rambler American, '77 Hornet wagon, '84 Jeep Grand Wagoneer) and they all were super cars.....It's too bad we don't have them anymore. I have been desperately wanting another AMC car, preferably a Pacer, Ambassador or Hornet hatchback.... hopefully soon I'll find one. I especially enjoyed the fake "AMG X/2" commercial on this site.... it made me curious about the status of AM general, which I don't know much about. Is it a freestanding company or is it owned by a parent company? What is its financial position? If anyone can answer these questions, e-mail me at pinchas@computer.net. As far fetched as this might sound, if AMG did ever begin producing passenger cars, it would truly be the closest thing yet to the old AMC..... well, it's only a dream.

What a web page, to find AMC people like myself- I can't believe my EYES. I'm 40 years old and live in Pa. and this summer I will be getting my 1973 AMX Javelin out of the paint shop which only has 10 hours on the motor that was rebuilt two years ago. What makes this car so SPECIAL is that I ordered the car when I was just 16 years old from the dealer here in Pa. Its great to know there are others out there to . Please keep this web page up . Thanks Mark from Pa.

I own a 68 Javelin just bought it last year, to go with my 65 GTO. I bought a 82 Eagle 4x4 for the winter. It was a beater car. Had to put another junk yard engine it in. Now I got to fix the gas tank. All so I don't drive my good cars in the winter. Great web page. Thanks and keep up the great work.

My younger son found this site and immediately grabbed me and took me to the PC. You see he has grown into an AMC freak like me. It is great to even know that such a site exists. I thought I was alone out there. I purchased my first Javelin in 1973 in Tucson while in the USAF. It is still with me and I love it dearly. She has been with me through two marriages and two major accidents provided by my first wife. No one hurt except the Javelin. Totaled out both times. The second time it got hit by a train. Yes, I know, I couldn't believe it either. What a mess. I cried. It wasn't as bad as it looked. So,I fixed it again (longer story). Anyway, my two sons and I will not part with this car. It's like part of the family. Amc made me a great car. Thanks for listening.

Hi AMC freaks out there here you hav one from Sweden. My car is a 68 Javelin with a 343 v8 and automatic trans. I have ovned the car since 74,the first years i used it daily but today it is ranovated back to its orginal shape. Ther is one small part still missing the plastic cover on the left side on the left frontseat. Is there anyone who can sell it to me? The cover is in black plastic and curved like a banana i think you AMC freaks know what part i mean.

I have had a passion for AMC since 1963 when my dad bought the "Car of the Year", a 1963 Rambler Classic 660 Wagon. I have owned three Gremlins, two "X's". I have never found my dream AMX or Marlin so I drive a Jeep Cherokee. Dick Teague has always been an inspiration. I appreciate your tremendous effort (web site) in keeping his design legacy alive. Is the Jeep Cherokee ( Teague's last design) the oldest car design still in production?

Although I am using my friends Internet account (My computer is broken), I am the biggest fan of AMX's. I work at a classic car dealer in Chicago, and would like to shoot the breeze about AMX's anytime. My phone number is (847) 295-3361 and ask for Kyle. We have one in the store now, it's a custom with a special exhaust, custom rear quarter panels made of lead (for traction), and a 4.10 rear end. My God is it fast!!! We have it sitting in the showroom next to a Viper, and I think the AMX is better looking. Anyways, great site, just wanted to drop you a line, and give me a ring. If I'm not in, leave a message. By the way, I am currently shopping for my first muscle car, and I want an AMX. If you know of any cherry examples for sale call immediately. I will pay top dollar for a prime example.

What a great site !! Me and my family are AMC junkies, my dad is the proud original owner of a 68 AMX. When I was 15 we bought my 68'Javelin sst. Both are the sought after white with red interior. The AMX has the 390 auto, and my Javelin has been swapped with a 401 with the Hurst 4 speed. My wife also has her 77 Cherokee Chief with a built 360 and a 4" lift. If anyone wants to talk AMC's or has some great info. on anything AMC give me a buzz! MOTOR NEWS - the dec.96 issue of Four Wheeler has the best article on AMC V-8's around. They even get into some real technical topics like old 66-69 sq. port heads vs. the newer dog-legged port heads, and how you can swap out the newer better flow heads with the old ones !!

I'm only 17, but I,ll bet that I know more about AMCs than your average person. The first car I that I drove was an '80 Eagle wagon...and it took the abuse and wouldn't die (all floor boards were completely disintigrated). I highly suggest that you find a May '76 Car&Driver and check out pages 70-71. It's titled 'The Flying Fishbowl' and is on factory collaberated Carl Green Enterprises v8 Pacer conversions (notice the sidepipes, spoiler/flares package, and tire&rim combo). If you check out pages 68-69 you'll find pics and an article on some interesting Pacers. The first is a truck-like Pacer while the second has a new face and blackout treatment. Normally I feel Pacers are ugly, but I'm sure anyone who sees these pics will aggree that these sleeper/modified Pacers are way cool. In the future I plan to own/build one (v8 truck type). The word should be spread that Pacers can be cool. (and I also have a friend that likes pacers...a lot) Oh, great page by the way; I spend alot of time at it.

Back in Oct., my 14 yr old son spotted a '68 Jav. for sale on our way home from Sun. dinner. He'd been driving us nuts wanting a car, everything from a 928 Porsche to a new Dodge Ram. Well, thats it! Of course it needs some work, but thats the fun of it. By the time he's 16, he'll have a head turner that he can afford to insure and register! It has the 343 V8 w/4bbl. Automatic and A/C. and about everything except the gas guage works. I'm a bit reluctant to say it, but it out corners my "69 Mach 1. Thanks for the page! We ckeck it out every week.

Just wanted to say "Thanks". Have owned my 69Jav. since 1980. First car I ever bought, and proud to say I still own it. Had to take her off the road because of the extensive body work that kept her from passing inspection. Thinking about reviving her. Figured this would be a great place to find parts. I personally discovered the AMC Javelins about a year ago, and fell in love upon first site. I purchased a 1973 Javelin with a 304, for a mere $700. I was immediately offered $2,500 for it the next day. I've got a bit more than that invested into it right now, mostly engine, and I'm not going to stop 'til I get it to do 150mph. I firmly believe that it was the best car ever made by man. As far as your home page is concerned... I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

Seeing all the info and pics brings back fond memories of the good fortune I had as a kid of an AMC managing engineer - cool cars coming home time and again.I got emotional when I attended a local AMO show partly because of the memories, but also because the existing cars are the end of a line in automotive history. The AMC cars were a fine alternative to the offerings of the plain jane boxes being sold by Generic Motors, er GM, etc. I'm glad John continues to provide a fineforum for folks to learn about a valued part of American automotive heritage...AMC!
